What happens when you bring local industries, school students, universities and TAFE centres, the local government, and a range of community organisations together to workshop solutions to the shortage of skilled employees in the region? The concept of a Learning Hub.
It has been identified that businesses are struggling to recruit new workers with job ready skills, and young people are leaving the shire for further study as no tertiary opportunities are available. The Learning Hub will look to fill the gap in local education to employment opportunities.
A steering committee and a pilot project group have formed as working groups to take on the challenge of creating a Learning Hub. Several projects were identified during the workshops as test programs, such as industry tours, student mentoring and after school study spaces.
