You may have noticed an increase in smiley faces around town?

The Smiley Initiative was launched by the Committee for Maryborough Chair, Windsor Main.

As COVID-19 became our new reality; local business had to begin making drastic changes to ensure the safety of the community whilst ensuring everybody stuck to social distancing guidelines. Windsor saw an opportunity to help them out, whilst giving the community something to smile about.

Instead of standing on black crosses or behind lines of tape, he decided to replace them with a smile. The team at Vital Signs were quick to assist and before we knew it the smiley faces began to pop up all over town. Not only brightening people’s day, but instantly becoming a point of familiarity and common practise.

Social distancing is not something that comes naturally to people in our community, so having the smiley faces genuinely made a massive difference. The feedback from local business and the community has been overwhelmingly positive, as people continue to queue on smiley faces without a second thought.

Even though restrictions are starting to ease, it is still important we all do our part to stop the spread. If you are a local business who would like to help stop the spread of COVID and help spread the Smiles, contact the Committee for Maryborough by filling out the email form on our home page.

Or if you are looking to get any printing or signage done, hit up the team at Vital Signs. Not only did they make this whole initiative possible, but they are absolute champions at what they do.

The memory of COVID might not be a pleasant one, but I think we can all agree that: “Do you remember when the town was covered in smiley faces?”, will still bring smiles for years to come.
